A Review of Born to Read

Reviewed by 2008-2009 Riverside Reads Staff, February 10, 2009

Sam, from the new book Born to Read by Judy Sierra and Marc Brown, is a pretty young boy who loves to read.  He reads in the tub, in the hall, in the mall and while playing basketball.  Sam reads everywhere he goes; anytime, anyplace.

We are in grade 3 and we have to read every night and everyday at school.  Some of us like comic books, car books, chapter books, books with pictures and books with no pictures.

Pretty much all of us liked the story and the pictures in Born to Read.  There were rhymes, a big giant baby and big words; something for everyone.  This is a book everyone can enjoy, but we think that it is meant for k-3 students.  We also think 4s and 5s would like it for the creative pictures and the big words, like: discreetly, operation and plundered.

Riverside Reads recommends Born to Read, written by Judy Sierra and illustrated by Arthur creator Marc Brown.

90% of the review was written by the grade 3 students that make up the main staff of Riverside Reads.  Since this was their first review, some modeling of structure and phrasing was done by the teacher.  In the future, the reviews on this site will be almost completely (98%) the work of the students.
