Welcome

When Riverside Consolidated School opened in 1905, the overwhelming consensus was that this was one of the finest educational centers in the province, perhaps in the country. Built at a time when consolidation was becoming the common solution to better provide quality education for all students, Riverside Consolidated was given $5,000 by the former Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick, The Honourable Abner Reid McClelan. McClelan asked that the school provide manual training, household science and gardening. Montreal tobacco millionaire Sir William Macdonald was active in the school consolidation movement in Canada, and also granted money for the construction of R.C.S., and its "twin", MacDonald Consolidated in Kingston, N.B.

Since its auspicious opening, Riverside Consolidated School has served as the heart of the community. Although its grades and subjects have changed over the century, its mission to provide excellence in education has never wavered. Among its graduates are famous and important people, along with a multitude of solid citizens with ties to its historic past, and its exciting present. With state of the art technology, students and staff have been able to create this living link to the people who have gone before us, to bring their histories alive for new generations of students and visitors, who can learn so much from their heritage.

We would like to acknowledge all the help we received from our Community Access Centre supervisors, and our District 2 Technology Mentors. Without their help, the staff would not have been able to "keep one step ahead of the students". Also, we want to sincerely thank all the members of the community for loaning us their priceless family photos for use on our sites. Their historical value is beyond price. These glimpses into the past are one of the strengths of our website.

We invite you to join us in these five very unique component sites for views of the past, as well as insight into our current students, their interests, talents and opinions. We are planning to continue to update and add to these projects, to prepare for our 100th Anniversary Celebration in June and July, 2005. If you can’t join us in person, we hope you will continue to visit us here. To view our websites, click here
